Week of July 25 Morning Show Ratings: Good Morning America No. 1 for 3rd Straight Week in Total Viewers and A25-54

By Mark Mwachiro

Make it three weeks in a row for ABC’s Good Morning America as the No. 1 morning news show in total viewers and adults 25-54.

For the week of July 25, GMA averaged 2.94 million total viewers and 642,000 viewers in the adults 25-54 demo, according to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen. In total viewers, GMA dropped by -4%, but in adults 25-54, it grew by +1% compared to last week

Looking at the same week in 2021, GMA is down -2% in total viewers and -18% in adults 25-54. The continual drop in adults 25-54 compared to 2021 should be worrying for GMA. It had better numbers last year even though it had to contend with the delayed 2020 Olympics, which aired on NBC.

But it’s not all doom and gloom for GMA; it won the July sweep in the Adults 25-54 demo for the first time since 2015, and scored its 11th consecutive victory in total viewers.

Over at NBC, the Today show performed much better compared to last week. In total viewers, it was up by +4% and grew by +3% in the adults 25-54 demo. For the week of July 25, Today had 2.77 million total viewers and 633,000 adults 25-54 viewers.

When compared to the same week in 2021, the Today show got a huge boost from the Olympics to make it the top show of that week last year. Today had 3.36 million total viewers and 971,000 adults 25-54 viewers during that week in 2021. An +18% difference in total viewers and a +35% difference in the adults 25-54 demo when compared to the same week this year.

For the week of July 18, CBS Mornings had 2.3 million total viewers, a slight drop of -.3%, and 493,000 adults 25-54 viewers, a gain of +9% when compared to the previous week.

Compared to the same week in 2021, it’s a mixed bag of results for CBS Mornings. The program lost -7% in total viewers and gained +3% in the adults 25-54 demo.

It is worth noting that CBS Mornings continues to gain viewers in the adults 25-54 demo despite the summer vacation schedules disrupting the full-time presence of the core on-air team of Gayle King, Tommy Doukopli, and Nate Burleson.
