“Warriors”: A ‘Landmark Documentary’?

Christiane Amanpour will appear on tonight’s Larry King Live to discuss religious extremism, the focus of CNN’s upcoming three-part, six-hour “God’s Warriors”. Described by the network as a “landmark documentary”, the series will begin tomorrow night, with “Jewish Warriors”. “Muslim Warriors” will follow Wednesday, with “Christian Warriors” on Thursday.

Amanpour, the Associated Press’ David Bauder writes, “is no longer CNN’s most visible reporter, as she was when skipping from one war zone to another. She received a lot of attention for her documentary ‘In the Footsteps of bin Laden’ last year, and said she’s enjoying the opportunity to put day-to-day news in greater perspective.”

“God’s Warriors” is the result of a pledge by CNN “to enlarge its footprint in serious documentaries,” adds Variety’s Brian Lowry. That decision, he says, is “a welcome use of the news network’s resources, as opposed to trying to out-Fox Fox News or out-sleaze TMZ.com on Paris Hilton exclusives.”
