Walter Leland Cronkite, Jr., considered by many to be “the most trusted man in America” has died. The announcement came from his family and reported on CBS tonight at 8:13pmET: “It is my sad duty to tell you that our friend and colleague Walter Cronkite has died,” said Katie Couric during a network special report. 92-year-old Cronkite, who most recently had been suffering from cerebrovascular disease, passed away this evening in New York.
Walter Cronkite anchored the CBS Evening News for 19 years, from 1962-1981. He lent his iconic voice to the broadcast in 2006 when Couric began anchoring the program.
