V&W: Two Anchors Seemed Pretty Smart

“ABC was ready to bring viewers the world Tuesday in the debut of a revamped World News Tonight. And then most of the news happened right here in the USA,” St. Petersburg Times critic Chase Squires writes.

Never mind that new co-anchor Bob Woodruff was in Tehran, Iran. The real stories were back home: trapped coal miners in West Virginia, a Washington scandal involving lobbyist Jack Abramhoff, brush fires in Texas.

That’s how it happens sometimes, and it just happened to make ABC’s move to two anchors look pretty smart. If the network is determined to send an anchor to the other side of the world, it’s good to have another anchor back at home, just in case…”
