Viacom Entertainers “Being Given A Voice In The Affairs Of CBS News”

The NYT’s Jacques Steinberg is ruling the “CBS Evening News future” beat. This morning he reports that a meeting last Tuesday suggests “CBS is canvassing opinions from people well outside the news division.”

Terry Wood, who developed Dr. Phil and The Insider, was on hand, along with Larry Rickel, a local TV news consultant and David Sirulnick, executive vice president of news at MTV.

One of Steinberg’s sources “expressed disappointment that people from the entertainment side of Viacom were being given a voice in the affairs of CBS News.” A CBS News spokesperson said it was one of “dozens” of meetings that Andrew Heyward has called to “to look at all aspects of the genre.”
