Velez-Mitchell Honored at LA Gay Pride

Over the weekend, HLN host Jane Velez-Mitchell was honored as the Person of the Year at Los Angeles’ 2010 Gay Pride parade. The distinction is awarded to “that individual who is continually involved in an important undertaking that makes a positive statement for the LGBT community as a whole.”

“Being chosen…definitely ranks as one of my peak experiences,” Velez-Mitchell tells TVNewser. “It really reaffirmed for me how transparency is such a joyful way to live.”

“The parade itself was a blast,” she adds. “A handful of protesters showed up. But those ten or so people couldn’t dent a party for tens of thousands or more. With all the calamities we face today, from the oil spill to wars that drag on, it was heartwarming to bask in something positive and peaceful. I felt the love.”
