“One of the journalistic questions on a big story” like the tragedy in Virginia Tech “is whether it’s worth sending anchors to the scene of an unfolding story that’s already full of reporters,” Tim Cuprisin writes.
CNN’s Kiran Chetry thinks it’s worth it:

“In cases when there is a collective shock in the nation because of a story — I mean there was nobody on Monday who wasn’t talking about this story — it really is difficult to completely understand and put perspective on it when you’re not there, when you’re sitting in your anchor chair behind a desk in New York.”
