Univision.com Launches English-Language Section

By Chris Ariens

The nation’s largest Spanish-language media network is putting some English on its site. Univision.com has launched “Univision News” geared toward what site leader David C Adams calls “an under-served audience of English-dominant Latinos who are steadily increasing in number.”

Adams, a British expat, who was previously Miami Bureau Chief for Thomson Reuters, says Univision News will leverage content from Univision’s TV, digital, radio and local media platforms and coordinate English-language content with Fusion, which is geared toward the millennial news market.

With the U.S. election fast approaching, the site will report heavily on electoral issues that impact the Hispanic community and it will closely follow events in Latin America, especially Mexico. “We recognize that second and third generation immigrants are less likely to remain in touch with the country of their parents and grandparents as they develop stronger ties to the United States and their local communities,” Adams said. “But the fate of Latin America is a matter that concerns us all in this hemisphere, for a whole host of reasons from trade to immigration to cultural and historical ties.”
