This morning FIFA revealed the host nations for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup tournaments. The United States was one of five finalists to host the 2022 tournament, which provided an added layer of interest to the American news outlets.

Unfortunately for U.S. “footie” fans, Qatar won the FIFA vote for 2022, with Russia getting the 2018 games.

CNN was the only major cable news channel to cover the announcement live, though all three would cover it after the fact.
