With the 10th anniversary of the 9/11/2001 terrorist attacks approaching, TVNewser reached out to anchors, reporters, producers and executives for their thoughts on that day, and what they believe has changed in the last 10 years.
ABC News “20/20” anchor Chris Cuomo, who covered 9/11 from downtown Manhattan:
For all the visual images, the haunting impression from watching tower 2 fall and then tower 1…was sound…a concussive event that sounded like an explosion and a vacuum simultaneously. Then silence…as people came through the debris…we were all choked by this nebulous mass of pulverized cement and paper and shoes and metal. It chased and overtook us; it stayed on for days on your body, months in the city, and forever in your mind.

“We all have so many poignant memories of that tragic day – but, among them, is how the media – especially, both the electronic and print press handled their responsibilities so professionally…If courage has been well described as “grace under pressure”, I think all those involved in the reporting of the unimaginable horror of that day lived up to that definition. In that regard, I believe nothing has changed – we have perhaps more voices now..and, often more divisiveness – but, in a situation like that, we would again unite for the greater good.”
