Today’s Fourth Hour Passes On AG Announcement

By Chris Ariens

A week into the fourth hour of Today, and NBC was met with a challenge this morning: whether to take the Rose Garden announcement of Attorney General-designate Judge Michael Mukasey. NBC is the only broadcast network that has a news program at 10am, but the program is time-shifted in many markets, airing at 11am or even later.

Fox was the only broadcast network to produce a special report for the announcement as an optional for affiliates. Those reports are produced and anchored out of FNC.

An NBC insider says the decision not to go with the live event is based more on the fact that it had been known since yesterday that Judge Mukasey was going to get the nomination; that the president’s Rose Garden appearance made official, what was already widely-reported.
