By A.J. Katz

With its performance in June 2023, The Five can celebrate back to back months as not only the top cable news show in average total viewers, but also the top cable news show among Adults 25-54.

The roundtable news talk program has consistently been the most-watched cable news offering over the past couple of years, but its top ranking now extends to younger news demo; at least for now.

In June 2023, Fox News’ 5 p.m. show averaged 271,000 Adults 25-54 and 2.62 million total viewers.

Fox News is home to seven of the 10 most-watched cable news shows in June, including the top five. MSNBC places the three others.

Jesse Watters Primetime is cable news’ second most-watched program for the second consecutive month, averaging 2.075 million in June. Watters is followed by Hannity (2.06 million at 9 p.m.), which was boosted by his town halls, Special Report with Bret Baier (1.83 million at 6 p.m.), boosted by Baier’s Trump interview, and The Ingraham Angle rounding out the top five in average total viewers for June 2023.

MSNBC’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell (which came up only -16,000 total viewers short to Ingraham Angle) takes sixth, with the interim 8 p.m. show Fox News Tonight,  Gutfeld!, Alex Wagner Tonight and Deadline: White House with Nicolle Wallace rounding out the top 10.

How about the top cable news shows among Adults 25-54? After all, this is a demographic that advertisers of TV news still focus their ad dollars on.

After The Five come Gutfeld! (234,000), Hannity moving from fifth to third (213,000), The Ingraham Angle (190,000) and Special Report with Bret Baier (187,000) and rounding out the top five in June among the demo.

Fox News has the top six shows on cable news among A25-54 after securing all 10 the month before. Alex Wagner Tonight is MSNBC’s top show among Adults 25-54 (185,000), coming up -1,000 viewers short to Jesse Watters Primetime (186,000).

After falling -4,000 A25-54 viewers short to Fox News Tonight in May, MSNBC’s All In With Chris Hayes averaged +23,000 more than its interim 8 p.m. rival (184,000 vs. 161,000). June 2023 represents the first time in program history that All In With Chris Hayes has defeated Fox News and CNN timeslot rivals ever.

Now, will Hayes remain No. 1 at 8 p.m. among Adults 25-54 for the long haul? Not likely. Jesse Watters takes the 8 p.m. reins on a full-time basis for Fox News beginning July 17. That said, MSNBC winning 8 p.m. in June (or any month, really) is worth recognizing.

All In ranks No. 8 in A25-54 viewers for June, followed by The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell (175,000) and The Beat with Ari Melber (167,000) rounding out the top 10.

Deadline: White House finished No. 1 at 4 p.m. in total viewers and among Adults 25-54 for the second consecutive month.

Additionally, Anderson Cooper 360 is CNN’s top show among Adults 25-54 for June (165,000), No. 13 on cable news.
