The Silence Surrounding Dan Rather’s Future Is “Deafening — And Shameful”

By Brian

This is not a good start to the week for veteran CBSer Dan Rather

B&C noticed his absence at last week’s affiliates meeting. He has been “virtually disappeared by his network,” the mag says, and “the silence regarding Rather’s future was deafening — and shameful, given his 44 years of service.” Friends describe him as “hurt and confused.”

…And Page Six has a preview of “Lone Star,” an unauthorized bio of Rather coming out this September. Former CBS producer Richard Cohen says: “This is the story of Macbeth. It’s about someone who was so seized by his own ambition that he forgot everything else. All he wanted to do was anchor the ‘Evening News’ – in fact, he wanted to be the ‘Evening News.'”

…And in this NYDN piece about Ed Bradley‘s 60 Minutes contract, Rush & Molloy say Rather “could leave W. 57th St. once and for all in a matter of weeks.”
