All the networks recorded their nominee coverage differently, so here is a breakdown for each channel:

FNC: Fox benefited the most from the 9pm announcement. The pre-show, between 8:48 and 9:02pm, averaged 2,878,000. Between 9:02 and 9:09pm, Fox averaged 3,571,000 viewers. A few more tuned in for the post-game show: FNC peaked between 9:09 and 9:11pm with 3,604,000. Between 9:11 and 9:15pm, 3,497,000 viewers were watching, and between 9:15 and 9:24pm, the network averaged 3,248,000. Hannity & Colmes, which aired between 9:24 and 10pm, had 2,304,000 viewers.

CNN: CNN did not break out its speech coverage for Nielsen purposes, but the network averaged 1,106,000 viewers between 9 and 10pm. (That’s only slightly higher than King’s usual average.)

MSNBC: The announcement helped MSNBC’s ratings. Countdown averaged 559,000 viewers between 8 and 9pm. The NBC simulcast between 9 and 9:12pm had 430,000 viewers on MS, but more viewers flipped over for the post-game show with Brian Williams: 557,000 viewers were watching between 9:12 and 9:25pm. The Situation, between 9:25 and 10pm, had 435,000 sets of eyeballs.
