Sunday Show Ratings: June 19

By A.J. Katz

The Sunday morning public affairs shows returned to their regular schedule one week after each was affected by coverage of the Orlando massacre. Apparently viewers were chomping at the bit for their go-to Sunday shows to return, as three of the four saw year-over-year improvements in the key categories (Al Punto ratings for June 19 have yet to arrive).

Meet the Press with Chuck Todd led the charge, taking top honors for June 19 both in total viewers and A25-54. The NBC program also delivered the biggest year-over-year gains among the competition, growing by double digits in both total viewers (+29 percent) and the demo (+28.5 percent) versus the same Sunday in 2015.

MTP drew an additional 1.535 million total viewers and 508,000 A25-54 viewers with rebroadcasts on the NBC and MSNBC.

CBS’ Face the Nation with John Dickerson took the No. 2 spot in the key categories. The program also saw double digit year-over-year improvement, both in total viewers (+14 percent) and A25-54 (+13 percent).

The story wasn’t quite as strong for This Week with George Stephanopoulos, particularly when it came to viewership among A25-54. The program was down 13.5 percent in the demo, but it was only down .5 percent in total viewers from the comparable Sunday in 2015.

The original June 19th broadcast of Fox News Sunday experienced single digit year-over-year improvements, both in total viewers (+2 percent) and in A25-54 (+4 percent).

The Fox broadcast combined with cable replays on FNC delivered a combined 3,342,000 total viewers and 758,000 viewers from the demo. It’s also useful to note that 15% of the country had Fox News Sunday affected due to US Open coverage.

Face the Nation is based on the first half-hour only, as the full contiguous hour aired in just 57.83 percent of the country.
