NBC’s Meet the Press with Chuck Todd topped the competition and posted year-over-year growth in total viewers on July 14th. The program averaged 2.84 million total viewers, beating ABC by +13% (+326,000) and CBS by +6% (+153,000). The broadcast featured exclusive interviews with Sen. Bernie Sanders, Sen. Ron Johnson, and Megan Rapinoe.
MTP also won in the A25-54 demo, topping ABC by +23% (+130,000) and CBS also by +23% (131,000).
An additional 904,000 total viewers and 181,000 A25-54 viewers watched the NBC Sunday program through re-runs on the broadcast network and MSNBC.
CBS’ Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan took second place in the Sunday show race among total viewers, but was edged by ABC in the advertiser-friendly A25-54 demo.
ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos averaged 1,000 more A25-54 viewers than Face the Nation, but finished behind the CBS Sunday politics program in total viewers.
Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace was also up year-over-year in total viewers, averaging 1.2 million total. The broadcast’s trio of cable replays delivered a combined 2.54 million viewers and 435,000 A25-54 viewers. Combined with the first-run telecast, that’s a total of roughly 3.73 million total viewers and 748,000 A25-54 viewers.
The Sunday public affairs shows on the English language networks delivered audience growth when compared with recent weeks. Unsurprisingly, the shows also saw audience improvement from the same Sunday last year, a day when many Americans were tuned into the Men’s FIFA World Cup Final on Fox.
This past Sunday, NBC was +3% in total viewers, CBS was +17%, ABC was flat, and Fox was +26% versus the comparable Sunday in 2018. In the A25-54 demo, NBC was -7%, ABC was -8%, CBS was +25%, and Fox was -1%.
FNS aired out of its normal time slot on that Sunday (July 15 2018) because Fox carried the France vs. Croatia World Cup Final, and FNS only had 77% national coverage that day.
