Three of the four English language network Sunday shows posted year-over-year total audience growth on Jan. 27.
While this past week’s episode of NBC’s Meet the Press will largely be remembered for Tom Brokaw‘s ill-advised comments about the Hispanic-American community, the show continues to thrive in the ratings.
Moderated by Chuck Todd, MTP was the No. 1 Sunday show across the board on Jan. 27, marking its tenth straight week at No. 1.
Meet the Press delivered +18 percent more total viewers than ABC and +20 percent more than CBS. This marks the broadcast’s 32nd straight win over ABC and 10th straight win over CBS in total viewers.
Versus the comparable Sunday in 2018, MTP was +12 percent in total viewers.
MTP also won in the key A25-54 demo for its 52nd straight broadcast, topping both ABC and CBS by double digits. Compared to last year, MTP was the only broadcast to grow its demo viewership (+5 percent).
An additional 1.18 million total viewers and 285,000 A25-54 viewers watched the show through rebroadcasts on NBC and MSNBC.
Meet the Press was also the No. 1 Sunday show across the board for the month of January, marking its 14th straight month at No. 1, and season-to-date, MTP is the most-watched Sunday show across the board, delivering its best total viewer lead over ABC in seven years and CBS in 8 years.
ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos moved past CBS and into second place this past week across the board on Jan. 27, and for the 2nd broadcast in a row, improved upon its year-ago Sunday in total viewers (+2 percent). That said, it still can’t manage to keep the A25-54 demo, and was -14 percent in the category vs. the comparable Sunday last year.
CBS Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan slipped to third place. Relative to last year, the broadcast was +1 percent in total viewers and flat in the A25-54 demo. Brennan has a big, pre-Super Bowl interview coming up with President Trump, a chunk of which will air on Sunday’s edition of Face the Nation.
John Roberts sat in for Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday this past week. The program was -8 percent in total viewers and -20 percent in the A25-54 demo vs. the comparable Sunday last year. The trio of cable replays delivered 2.43 million total viewers and 405,000 A25-54 viewers. Combined with the first-run broadcast on Fox, that’s 3.77 million total viewers and 769,000 A25-54 viewers.
FNS was preempted in several markets, including Vegas, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle due to College Basketball on Fox.
