SOTU: News & Notes

By Chris Ariens

After introductions and applause, President Bush began his final State of the Union address on the big four broadcast networks as well as the cable news channels at 9:10pmET. ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC are all carrying the address in HD, as is CNN HD. In the New York market the MyNetworkTV affiliate WWOR is carrying the FOX feed of the event (WWOR is owned by News Corp.)

Brian Williams on NBC, Charlie Gibson on ABC and Katie Couric on CBS are anchoring the coverage. Shepard Smith (apparently standing outside) is anchoring on the Fox broadcast network, while Brit Hume (back in the studio) anchors on FNC.

Many of the Capitol Hill correspondents are back from the campaign trail to cover the events in the House chamber: Kelly O’Donnell on NBC, Chip Reid on CBS and Jessica Yellin on CNN, among them.

>Update from a tipster: “Shep Smith is anchoring along with the whole crew on a terrace from the new Newseum and Bloomberg is also broadcasting from the Newseum — except they are inside.”

>More: Among foreign networks, BBC World and Euro News are taking the address.
