Shepard Smith, News Consultant? Anchor Gives Advice to Local Newsroom Staffers

In Chicago to talk to staff at Fox O&O WFLD-TV, the Chicago Sun-Times’ Robert Feder reports that FNC’s Shepard Smith took a “turn as unofficial news consultant.”

According to an eyewitness account, Feder reports, Smith’s “tips for improving the (10:00 p.m.) show included adding more music, bigger graphics and a faster pace — in other words, making it more like his own newscasts.”

“The reason for Smith’s turn as unofficial news consultant was unclear to many in the room,” Feder adds…

> Update: 12:16pm: A spokesman for Fox News Channel said Chicago was the only local news operation Smith had visited. He offered few details except to say that Smith “went out there to chat with the talent and producers.”
