Sean Hannity: ‘I Don’t Like Bill Maher as a Person But…’

By Jordan Chariton

HannityA fiery debate between usual allies Bill Maher and actor Ben Affleck on HBO last week has crossed over to cable news this week, and last night, Sean Hannity had a surprising compliment for the former.

“I don’t like Bill Maher as a person, but I think Bill Maher is good for America,” Hannity said to guests Greta Van Susteren and Bob Beckel. “He says all these outrageous things; he’s almost become an iconoclasm because he’s willing to speak the truth when so many others in the media are scared to death.”

Maher and Affleck got into a heated exchange on “Real Time” last week over radical islam, with Maher suggesting criticizing Islam doesn’t equate to criticizing Muslims as people. Affleck objected, claiming Maher was painting a broad brush on the entire Muslim religion. The sparring match between the two spilled over to cable news: Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC all did segments off of the HBO debate.
