A fiery debate between usual allies Bill Maher and actor Ben Affleck on HBO last week has crossed over to cable news this week, and last night, Sean Hannity had a surprising compliment for the former.
“I don’t like Bill Maher as a person, but I think Bill Maher is good for America,” Hannity said to guests Greta Van Susteren and Bob Beckel. “He says all these outrageous things; he’s almost become an iconoclasm because he’s willing to speak the truth when so many others in the media are scared to death.”
Maher and Affleck got into a heated exchange on “Real Time” last week over radical islam, with Maher suggesting criticizing Islam doesn’t equate to criticizing Muslims as people. Affleck objected, claiming Maher was painting a broad brush on the entire Muslim religion. The sparring match between the two spilled over to cable news: Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC all did segments off of the HBO debate.
