Schieffer Rethinking Retirement?

What is Bob Schieffer going to do with all his new spare time once a new CBS Evening News anchor is named?

He tells TV Week’s Michele Greppi: “I’m going to hang around here for a while and be as helpful as I can on that front. Then I’m going to go back to ‘Face the Nation’ and the very nice life I had before all this started. You know, I went out with my wife Pat the other night and discovered she’s a very nice person. We have a lot in common. And we do have fun together. I’m going to enjoy being around a little bit more.”

In the past, Schieffer has said that he would like to retire on his 70th birthday. He turned 69 on Saturday, so should we assume that he’s feeling differently about retirement?

“I don’t know if I do or not. I suppose everything’s negotiable,” he says. “But that might be just a very good time to say adios.” More…
