Schieffer Not Facing The Nation Forever

By Brian

CBS’ reliance on Bob Schieffer “illustrates just how much the nets still depend on the generation of broadcasters that became famous before cable news and hundreds of channels splintered audiences,” Variety’s Michael Learmonth wisely points out.

But “the nation’s most famous temp” told Learmonth “he’d like to retire at 70, less than a year away.”

Schieffer says: “There are still a lot of things I want to do that have nothing to do with CBS. I’d like to come back for election coverage in 2008 –but to work five days a week is not what I want to do.”

Who’s in line to Face the Nation?
