According to Nielsen’s fast national ratings the Today show’s Halloween show came in number one, but topped GMA by just 39,000 total viewers. ABC says that’s the smallest gap since 1991.
In their annual rite of autumn, the Today show anchors dressed as the Munsters: Al as Grandpa, Matt as Herman, Meredith as Lily, Hoda as Marilyn, Natalie as Eddie and Tiki as the Dragon.
ABC says just four years ago, Today beat GMA on Halloween morning by “more than 2 million total viewers.” The fast nationals are a preliminary look at the national ratings, and represent the top 20 markets. The full picture for the week will be out next Thursday.
>Update: The preliminary fast national number which shows the gap of 39,000 widened when the more accurate, later number came out at 4pm yesterday. That number showed the gap at 97,000.
