Saddam Trial: Cameras Controlled By USA

By Brian

As I’ve watched the Saddam Hussein trial on CNN Pipeline this week, I’ve wondered: Who’s running the video feed? On MSNBC.com’s “Blogging Baghdad,” Richard Engel explains that the camera operators and broadcast technicians are Americans.

“Watch closely and you’ll notice whenever there are outbursts, the camera quickly focuses on the chief judge,” he writes. “This is no accident. The camera operators in the court, controlled by the U.S.-funded tribunal, have been instructed to cut to the judge whenever necessary ‘for security reasons.'”

If this feed is being controlled a U.S.-funded tribunal, should it be identified as such on the air?
