Roger Ailes: FNC’s “Very Protective Parent”

Fort Worth Star-Telegram TV critic Robert Philpot says Roger Ailes is a “very protective parent” of Fox News. He writes:

“As I talked to another critic [after Ailes’ TCA press tour session], we discussed how if CBS’ Bob Schieffer is a folksy country doctor, then Ailes comes off like an authoritarian parent, telling respectful charges like [Shep] Smith and [Jennifer] Griffin that it’s bedtime. And he had good, well-thought out answers for every question lobbed his way, not that those answers will leaven skepticism about his channel (and all news channels and shows should be subject to similar skepticism). But the parent metaphor still works: Fox News is Ailes’ baby, it’s about to turn 10, and in the session, he seemed like a very protective parent.”
