Following up on yesterday’s news that John Roberts is leaving CBS for CNN:
> At CNN, Roberts will be doing more “enterprising reporting.” He tells the NYDN: “What cable offers is more opportunities to explore a wide range of stories.”
> Roberts tells USA Today: “I’ll be able to stretch out the muscles a little bit and really get involved in some in-depth, enterprise reporting as well as coverage of breaking news, so I jumped at the chance.”
> Jon Klein tells THR: “He’s really solid, and we’re pleased to have him on board. He’s got all the attributes we’re looking for. He’s a real reporter…and he does a lot of the work himself.”
> Sean McManus tells the Baltimore Sun: “John has been a tremendous asset to CBS News. He had a great opportunity at CNN, where I know he’ll do great work and be a worthy competitor.”
> CBS is a “news division that appears to value Couric over its own longtime laborers,” Doug Elfman says.
> Toronto Star: “So would he have stayed if CBS had offered him the anchor job? ‘Well, they didn’t,’ he said. ‘So it’s a moot point.'”
