Replacing The “Voice of God?”

In the latest issue of Broadcasting & Cable, Andrew Tyndall dissects the “Voice of God” on the CBS Evening News and imagines what a format less reliant on an anchor could look like. Les Moonves says young viewers want bits-and-pieces of news. But this style “does not put less emphasis on the anchor,” Tyndall concludes, after analyzing Entertainment Tonight and The Fox Report with Shep Smith. “On the contrary, the Fox Report’s helter-skelter format gives Smith a more dominant presence than Rather has on the Evening News.”
