Remember the day CNN’s Miles O’Brien and producer Dana Garrett rescued a dog they found in the wake of Hurricane Rita?

The dog didn’t have a collar. “And police said if the owner did not materialize soon the dog would be put to sleep.”

So Garrett adopted the dog and named her Sunny. But six weeks later, rightful owner Misty McCourteny contacted Garrett after hearing about the segment on CNN.

“I knew at that point that I was so attached that I wasn’t going to be able to just put her in a crate and put her on a plane and ship her back home,” Garrett said on American Morning today. So she drove the pup 1,300 miles to McCourtney’s new home in Nebraska…
