Protest Outside The Today Show

By Chris Ariens

During the 8am hour of the Today show Matt Lauer interviewed Maureen Faulkner, the widow of murdered Philadelphia police officer Danny Faulkner. Maureen Faulkner, along with radio talk show host Michael Smerconish were talking about their new book, “Murdered by Mumia.” Supporters of Mumia Abu-Jamal, the man convicted of killing Faulkner in 1981, converged on Rockefeller Plaza in what Lauer called “a fairly substantial protest right across the street from our studio. These people got up early in the morning, came from someplace to express their views that this man is innocent.”

Faulkner says the Free Mumia members, “are trying the case in the court of public opinion and not in the court of law.” NBC insiders tells us the protest was expected and that security and the NYPD were notified as a precaution.
