Meet the Press’ brief stint in second place will undoubtedly come to an end this Sunday because President Trump will be appearing on the Chuck Todd-moderated program for the first time since he took office in January 2017.

President Trump’s upcoming appearance on Meet the Press seems to be an extension of the his NBCU media tour, as he sat down with Noticias Telemundo and NBC Nightly News Saturday anchor Jose Diaz Balart today for an interview that airs tonight on Telemundo.

Sunday’s appearance will also mark Trump’s first interview on an NBC News program since his 2017 sit down with NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt, and his first appearance on Meet the Press since Jan. 10, 2016.

President Trump’s upcoming appearance on MTP comes a week after he was interviewed by another broadcast network journalist, ABC News chief political anchor George Stephanopoulos.

After rejecting the broadcast networks for months, it seems the president is warming up to idea of giving more interviews to TV outlets not named Fox News.

President Trump always likes to be on the top-rated show, and Meet the Press had been the dominant Sunday politics show up until recently, winning in the key A25-54 demo for 66 consecutive Nielsen-rated broadcasts. That streak was broken on June 2.

CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins was first to report the news.
