What’s the proper balance of solemnity and silence vs. “adding context?” These two e-mails demonstrate the interesting challenge:
“FNC just wont shut up yacking,” a viewer ranted at 3:15pm. “A death ceremony is being held, FNC is showing the LIVE coverage BUT yacking with talking heads all the way through. Even CNN’s Aaron Brown is keeping his jaws shut.”
But then half an hour later, at 3:45pm: “FNC hasn’t had one of their people speak for probably 10 minutes now, just listening to the bells and the voice of a translator,” an e-mailer says. “MSNBC seems to be doing the same. CNN is yapping with reporters elsewhere…CNN’s been talking forever, can’t they be quiet for a little while?”
