Peril on Tape, Or Peril Live?

By Chris Ariens

A tough choice: broadcast a much-hyped, highly-produced, year-in-the-making special report or stay with a breaking news story that some say is directly related to the subject of that special?

CNN stuck to its guns and went ahead with the airing of part one of Planet in Peril.

Anderson Cooper is the primary correspondent and host of Peril. For the last several months, he has been trotting to several global hotspots. And tonight he finds himself in the middle of the hottest: the southern California wildfires. Toward the end of a special edition of AC360 about the fires, Cooper told viewers, “We’re going to be breaking in with bulletins on the fire over the next two hours as we do we’ll be showing you the global view, the big picture, fire drought, deforestation…it is all connected.” But perhaps, on this night, too connected.
