NK Missile Launch: CNN “Pounced”

By Brian

Many, many e-mailers praised CNN for impressive coverage of the North Korea missile launch on Tuesday. John King hosted a four-hour special edition of The Situation Room from 4 to 8pm. Then the network simulcasted an hour of CNN International. Instead of re-running Larry and Star, Larry King hosted a panel discussion in D.C. at 9. “For the first time in a long time, I am proud of CNN,” one person wrote. Here are some more of the e-mailer comments:

> “CNN has owned the NK missile story from the beginning — they were even quoted by other news organizations like the BBC. Fantastic use of their international correspondents based in bureaus throughout Asia.”

> “It was nice to see CNN rise to the occasion with its wall-to-wall 4th of July missile-launch coverage. They thoroughly kicked FNC’s ass Tuesday afternoon.”

> “CNN is wiping the floor on the other cable news nets on the N. Korea missle test breaking news. They brought in a lot of their vacationing regulars and have the advantage of CNN International to get updates and commentary outside the U.S.”

> “CNN is airing CNNI now duing the 8p hour. You will, I am sure, have critics who will say here’s little CNN on a holiday leaning on CNNI for coverage because no one is around. But let me tell you, CNN pounced the other cable nets on this story.”
