A longtime local news journalist is leaping into the world of national cable news.

Bob Brooks, a reporter and fill-in anchor for ABC’s Philadelphia affiliate WPVI, is joining the conservative cable news outlet Newsmax as an anchor and correspondent.

“Growing up in a small Pennsylvania town next to a family-owned farm to covering big stories in some of the nation’s largest cities, Bob has developed a reporter’s instinct about the news that’s important to Americans,” Newsmax programming chief Elliot Jacobson said in a statement.

Brooks added, “I am glad to go national on a network like Newsmax, with a growing news brand and a team of talented professionals who care about news and the public’s right to know.”

Brooks has also served as a correspondent for South Florida’s NBC 6 WTVJ in Miami. He began his career as a local reporter at another NBC affiliate, 18 News WETM in Elmira, N.Y.

Brooks has been in TV news for 13 years and has covered stories ranging from natural disasters to major presidential elections including the 2016 and 2020 races.
