Networks’ Apartment Search Live-Mocked on Twitter

As it happened, those who watched shared their sarcasm, their anger, and their moments of pure ridiculousness, like the man who emerged from the California apartment where the mass shooting suspects had lived, holding what appeared to be an orange creamsicle:

[The reporter in the photo says it was not a popsicle, but a screwdriver that he used to help the landlord remove wood that covered the apartment’s front door.]

MSNBC took much of the heat for the search on social media, though CNN, the BBC, ITV and CBS News also participated. That they did–and opted to do so while on live television–had other journalists wondering about the conflict between “first” and “smart.”

It was, arguably, not TV news’ finest display.
