NBC’s “Strategic” National Ad Moves

NBC continues to pull national ads from The Today Show on days when Good Morning America looks to challenge Today in the ratings. Why? Because “Nielsen doesn’t record program data without national ads,” Broadcasting & Cable explains.

It happened twice in May — once during a Dancing with the Stars feature and once during Diane Sawyer’s TB patient interview. GMA senior EP Jim Murphy says “it feels like cheating,” while a Today spokesperson says “it’s not unusual for us to be strategic and aggressive in our programming.” More…
