The NBA will reportedly cancel the 2011 Las Vegas Summer League and its annual summer internship program due to the pending July 1 lockout, according to Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News.

The NBA Summer League is a showcase for rookies and younger bench players to get playing time and provide the media a first glance at the top draft selections in action. Over the years, the Las Vegas Summer League has expanded from six to 22 teams.

As for the NBA internship program, the league usually hires 30 college students for 10 weeks during the summer in the league’s offices in New York and at the entertainment division in Secaucus, N.J.
