Natalie Morales: Today’s “Utility Player”

By Chris Ariens

Broadcasting & Cable‘s Allison Romano calls Natalie Morales
“one of NBC News’ fastest-rising stars.” Morales co-anchors the fourth hour of the Today show and contributes to the other three hours as a fill-in anchor and newsreader and as the program’s national correspondent.

Romano writes, “In an industry where TV journalists work for decades for a shot at the network level, Morales’ rise to a plum spot on Today has been meteoric.”

From banking to marketing and finally TV journalism, Morales made her way into the NBC News ranks as a reporter for WVIT, NBC’s O&O in Hartford, CT. She joined the MSNBC anchor roster in 2002.

“You can’t be a great anchor until you are an incredible reporter,” Morales tells Romano. “Everyone shines in the field, and that is why I’m always pushing to get out there.”
