MSNBC’s Audience Flow: Three Thoughts

By Brian

Three thoughts from e-mailers about the all-important “audience flow” for MSNBC primetime:

> “I think Kaplan is hoping the audience that tunes into Keith will stay and scream at Joe until they’re too deaf to hear Rita’s raspy voice so they can fall asleep watching Carlson? Either way Olbermann is the key to the whole thing and just demonstrates how vital he is to their network,” an e-mailer says.

> From another e-mailer: “This also kills the flow from Countdown to Scarborough Country UNLESS they get Rachel Maddow, already on Carlson’s show, on as a CO-HOST with Scarborough. Otherwise, MSNBC will lose, right at 9pm on the dot, all the liberal viewers that Olbermann gets. Why is MSNBC determined to lose all the liberal viewers that they could easily get a monopoly on?”

> And from a third: “Concerning ‘audience flow’ on the MSNBC Joe-Rita switch, tabloid tends to play better on the West coast, whereas politics tends to play better on the East. So I think it’s a good idea to put Rita in primetime (7:00) on the West and move Joe closer to the heat of primetime (9:00) in the East.”
