Morning Show Ratings: Week of Sept. 9

By A.J. Katz

There was a split decision in the morning show ratings race last week.

NBC’s Today won the week in the A25-54 demo, and has now won the category for 192 of the past 194 weeks. The NBC morning show also managed to finish No. 1 among the morning shows in total viewers on Monday and Tuesday. However, it still fell short to Good Morning America for the week in average total viewers due to losses in the measurement on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  GMA also received a nice ratings lift Friday morning due to the previous night’s Democratic primary debate, which aired on ABC and Univision.

Good Morning America was the top morning show for the week in total viewers, defeating Today by an average of +78,000 viewers. Season to date, the ABC morning show is the most-watched in its genre for the 7th straight year after finishing as the No. 1 morning newscast for the last six seasons.

Today was -12% in total viewers and -21% among adults 25-54. CBS This Morning was -14% in total viewers, and -16% among adults 25-54.
