Monte Carlo Fire: Notes

By SteveK

Shortly after 2pmET this afternoon, the Las Vegas fire at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino became a breaking news story that all networks were covering wall-to-wall.

According to TVEyes, MSNBC broke into coverage first at 2:19pmET, followed closely by CNN and FNC at 2:20pmET.

Fox News Channel was first with an interview from the scene, talking with Robin Leach who could see the fire from down the strip. CNN was able to talk with a producer, who was in town because HLN anchor Robin Meade is serving as lead judge for tomorrow’s Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas.

FNC is the only network reporting that there are four workers trapped on the roof. CNN has employed i-Reports to show pictures of the hotel.

The fire has spread significantly since the networks have switched to full coverage at about 2:25pmET, so the story may continue throughout the afternoon.

> Update: FNC is now reporting no one is trapped on the roof.
