Mitch Gelman to Leave CNN

Mitch Gelman, SVP and executive producer of CNN.com, announced yesterday that he is leaving the company. Gelman, who oversees editorial operations for the Web site, has been with CNN since 1998.

Gelman will be relocating to Colorado where is wife is a veterinary student at Colorado State. In a note to staff this morning, obtained by TVNewser, Gelman writes, “With Melissa and our four-year old son living there, we’ve had a crazy commute…We’ve been doing it long enough…my last day with CNN.com will be at the end of the year.”

Gelman made the decision several months ago, but decided to stay through the election. He joined CNN.com in 2001 and guided the site’s July 2007 relaunch. Before CNN.com, Gelman was executive editor of CNNSI.com. He’s worked for newspapers in New York and Seattle as well as for Time magazine and is the author of eight books.
