Michael Strahan Makes GMA Debut as Full-Time Co-Host

ABC debuted its new-look Good Morning America Tuesday, with Michael Strahan joining as full-time co-host.

“It’s great to have you full time with us,” said co-host Robin Roberts as the show began with Roberts, Strahan and George Stephanopoulos sitting at the desk. “It does feel like the first day of school around here,” Roberts added, in a nod to a back-to-school promo campaign ABC ran ahead of Strahan’s debut.

Strahan’s arrival raised speculation there might be on-set reshuffling of some of GMA’s talent and changes to the show’s format.

Lara Spencer, who has been away from GMA while recovering from hip replacement surgery, called in to say “I’m feeling great.”

The only one not fully onboard with the new-look GMA appeared to be actor Tom Hanks, who was jokingly asked by Roberts if he’d like to be part of the show. “Get rid of the guy with the gap in his teeth and I’ll come in every day,” Hanks said:
