Matt Lauer To Report From Iran

Days after his former morning co-anchor returned from a reporting trip to Iraq, Matt Lauer is heading to Iran. Lauer’s reports from Tehran begin this Thursday. NBC says “Lauer will focus on many of the pressing issues facing the United States and Iran, including Iran’s nuclear ambitions and allegations it’s aiding the insurgency in Iraq.”

Special Split-Edition of “Today” to Air Thursday, September 13 with Matt Lauer Live From Tehran, Iran and Meredith Vieira Live from New York

NEW YORK – September 10, 2007 – – As tensions build between the United States and Iran, NBC News’ Matt Lauer takes a rare look at the country live from its capital, Tehran. Lauer’s report will air live on a special split-edition of “Today,” Thursday, September 13 with Lauer co-anchoring live from Tehran and Meredith Vieira co-anchoring live from New York.

Lauer will focus on many of the pressing issues facing the United States and Iran, including Iran’s nuclear ambitions and allegations it’s aiding the insurgency in Iraq. Lauer will also tour Tehran’s busy marketplace and talk with residents of the city about their impressions of the United States. Additionally, NBC News Middle East correspondent and Beirut Bureau Chief Richard Engel will examine the role of women in Iran chronicling their lives under strict Islamic law, and he’ll take an in-depth look into aspects of Iran’s culture, which most Americans never get to see.
