Matt Lauer has signed a contract extension with NBC News, TVNewser has learned.
Lauer, who makes an estimated $25 million a year, has signed on for 2 more years, sources tell us.
Lauer’s current contract, also a 2-year deal, was set to expire later this year. In January he’ll mark 20 years as co-anchor of Today, extending his run as the longest running network morning show host. In that time, Lauer has had four co-hosts, Katie Couric, Meredith Vieira, Ann Curry and, since 2012, Savannah Guthrie.
The Today show trails ABC’s Good Morning America as the most-watched morning show, but has held the lead in the advertiser-friendly A25-54 demo for the last 14 months.
NBC News declined to comment. Lauer and his Today show colleagues were spotted earlier today at Fresco by Scotto for a holiday lunch.
