Martin Savidge Leaving NBC To Anchor Nightly Public Television Program

By Alissa Krinsky

NBC News correspondent Martin Savidge is leaving the network to become anchor of a daily newscast on public television, the New York Times‘ Elizabeth Jensen reports.

Set to debut October 6, Worldfocus will cover international news. Jensen says it will air on a number of public television stations — including most of those in the top ten markets — and that a formal announcement of Savidge’s hiring is expected today.

Savidge tells Jensen the new program will focus on stories ignored by many U.S. news outlets. There have been recent international developments, he says, that, due to lack of media attention, “most Americans heard nothing about.”
