CBS News has elevated Lorna Jones to the new role of managing editor for CBS News Washington news coverage.

Jones has been a part of the CBS News’ D.C. bureau since 2015, joining to become the senior producer for CBS Newspath. During that time, she managed all the breaking news out of Washington and oversaw editorial content, and was also responsible for developing on-air talent and producers.

Prior to moving to Washington, Jones was the Weekend News manager for the National Desk in New York.

“I am excited for this unique opportunity where I get to continue to work alongside my amazing colleagues at CBS News in a new and challenging role,” Jones told TVNewser. “The news cycle coming out of our nation’s capital has been moving at a demanding and ever-changing pace, which has increased the need for meticulous coordination and open communication at every level. I am eager to serve as a conduit that will help facilitate the information flow in our DC newsroom and will work tirelessly to help deliver the most-up-to-date information our viewers both deserve and expect.”

CBS News vice president and Washington bureau chief Chris Isham announced earlier today that Jones will step into her new role on Jan. 7.

“In this new position, which is effective January 7, Lorna will be working closely with Diana, Kevin and all our folks on the desk to coordinate the editorial flow of information between the teams on the beats, the broadcasts and the digital platforms. Lorna will also be the primary point of contact with the news hub in the New York Broadcast Center,” Isham wrote in an internal memo to staff.

“There is no question that Lorna has the experience, the skills and the solid editorial judgement to take on this new challenge and I very much look forward to working with her,” Isham added.  “Please join me in congratulating Lorna in her new position.”
