Lester Holt: Back To His “News Roots”

By Alissa Krinsky

On assignment in the Windy City, Lester Holt spoke with the Chicago Tribune’s Phil Rosenthal about life as “the busiest man in news”, as he’s often described.

Saturdays and Sundays are the most hectic for Holt, who anchors Weekend Today and, since May, the weekend editions of the NBC Nightly News. “I’m loving it,” Holt says. “As much as I enjoy the ‘Today’ thing, it’s kind of fun to get back to my hard news roots. Especially since I left (MSNBC on) the cable side, I didn’t really have an outlet to do the hard stuff, so now I get the 30-minute fix.”

Holt was in Chicago, where he used to anchor local news, for a Weekend Today “What’s So Great About…” travel story, slated to air tomorrow.
