Layoffs at Network News Service

By Alex Weprin

Network News Service has laid off a number of staffers as part of a reorganization.

NNS was founded in 2000 by CBS News, ABC News and Fox News to share footage and pool together resources from local affiliates.

Someone familiar with the matter tells TVNewser that a small number of staffers from each of the three news organizations were laid off as part of the reorganization.

In a statement, ABC News, Fox News and CBS News says that the cooperative was making “sensible adjustments that reflect the partners’ needs as NNS evolves,” and that new IP transmission technology changed the needs of the organization.

The full statement is after the jump.

This is a reorganization of a very successful and valuable 10-year old partnership between ABC, CBS & Fox. In the normal course of business, we are making sensible adjustments that reflect the partners’ needs as NNS evolves. These adjustments will allow NNS to be more nimble and efficient and are possible because of advances in IP transmission technology. NNS will continue to provide its network partners with a wider reach and will continue to help make its network partners, their affiliates, and clients more competitive.
