Kennedy News Notes: Senators Respond

By SteveK

• As a major supporter of Sen. Barack Obama, the news of Sen. Ted Kennedy‘s malignant tumor made Obama’s response a big get. CNN landed the first interview, by Wolf Blitzer, set up before the news broke. CNN got the news out first, airing portions just before 3pmET (the full interview airs during the 4pmET hour). MSNBC had a live interview by Andrea Mitchell which aired in full at 3:10pmET. FNC’s Megyn Kelly interviewed Obama as well, which airs at 5pmET (although clips have aired since just after 3pmET).

• Senator Joe Lieberman appeared on the business channels today, but during the breaking news just after 1:00pmET, he was live on Fox Business Network (although he appeared on CNBC first). Lieberman gave his first comments on the matter just after FBN reported the news, at 1:09pmET — slightly ahead of CNN and CNBC.

> Update: ABC News’ Jake Tapper interviewed Obama as well. The interview airs during World News.

> Update, update: TVNewser hears from a few tipsters about an error made during Studio B on FNC regarding their Obama interview. Apparently at 3:20pmET, FNC played a clip from what was supposed to be Megyn Kelly’s interview — instead, it was part of MSNBC’s interview that aired live less than 10 minutes before.

The four Obama satellite interviews took place back-to-back, which must have led a Studio B producer to, as a tipster notes, make an “exceptionally sloppy” mistake.
